Pets may be brought into Cyprus after securing an import permit from the Cyprus Veterinary Services. They must be kept under house quarantine for six months (home quarantine in a previously designated area where the Veterinary Services Department can inspect them at intervals is also possible). This quarantine has been lifted for pets when certain documents/ certificates such as the following are submitted:
● Examination certificate stating
that pets were clinically examined 72 hours prior to exportation. Since 1st October, 2004 all pets owners within the E.U., who wish to take their pets with them when traveling within the E.U. countries, to secure a passport. The passport, in the Official language of each member country, will contain information such as name, sex, breed etc., as well as the health status of the Pet. Pet passports will essentially serve EU member states, but can also be used in non-E.U. countries. A microchip will identify the Pet by linking it to the passport. The following breeds cannot be brought into Cyprus: ● American Pit Bull or Pit Bull Terrier, ● Japanese Tosa, ● Dogo Argentino ● Fila Brasileiro.
