CYPRUS TOURISM REVENUE SHOWS INCREASE AGAIN

Figures from the statistical service show that for the first 10 months of 2006 income for the tourism sector is estimated at £960.9 million compared to £932.2 million, for the same period last year. This demonstrates a 3.1% increase. It has also been recorded that British holidaymakers have the highest capita expenditure followed collectively by Russians, Austrians, Irish and Belgians.

I was not surprised to see that the British have the highest per capita expenditure but I was pleased to see that so many other tourists from other countries are now playing catch up. For years British holiday makers were dominate in Cyprus which also had a big effect on our property market with so many choosing to buy second homes here. Although the British presence has further increased from all those years ago we are seeing a marked increase in property investments from other countries with many Russians amongst others now firmly settled here. This once again helps lift the economy to an even higher level and I think our programme of introducing Cyprus as an all year round sports destination with countless facilities and many international standard golf courses will play an even stronger part in Cyprus’ evolution.”
