Q.: I have just come about to learn about a declaration that a British MEP said regarding Cyprus being a “Bandit State” etc etc. Are these people immune of law, because I intend to take legal action against this (otherwise) “gentleman”.
N.Stathis

A.: No need to bother Stathis. Just remind him of the U.K. situation and its MPs as well as its Lords – Questions for Cash, Bills for Cash and now cheating the public by the Lords and others – A discussion is needed indeed which of the two states is a better one.

Q.: I was shocked to see a demonstration carried out by some foreign people with placards stating objectionable slogans about our president. Whatever these people have against the Government, it is not correct to become personal in their demonstrations – What do you think, shall we, as locals stage a counter-demonstration against them?
Lenia Photi

A.: You must refer to a certain pressure group, which is taken upon itself together with others to push the title deed/permits issue. To this end and notwithstanding that their intentions are good since they represent the situation also of thousands of locals, they find me in agreement in their effort, but they must be careful in their handling of the situation. It is one thing of someone within the family complaining about another member of the same family and another when an outsider complaining about one’s family member. It needs care and tact.

Q.: Any news on the Larnaca Marina Mr Loizou? Sorry for keeping bothering you, but I cannot get a clear answer by the Larnaca Municipality on the issue. Thank you again in anticipation. Love the column and this paper.
Dick Harry

A.: In a democracy everyone has the right to object in court against any decision. Hence the delay. To cut a long story short, the Tender Board awarded the Marina to A Group, the B Group objected and B Group won the tender. Now A Group has the right to object to the second decision. I understand however that A & B Groups are now talking to do the project together. The danger is that even if they agree between them, if they produce an alternative plan to the Government, not forming as such part of their original tender, C Group (which is out) can object to it!! Lets keep our fingers crossed, since the most worried people is the Mayor and the people of Larnaca, who are looking forward to this project, which will do wonders for the town. As an addition, the Ayia Napa Marina will most likely go out to tenders again due to the long delay that has taken for a decision (as well as for what I am told the single tenderer is now thinking of withdrawing, bearing in mind the prevailing economic situation). What a mess my friend, but I do hope that you will be young enough by the time these projects are ready to enjoy your sailing etc. We are not alone in this, just to remind you that the fountain constructed in Hyde Park London for Princess Diana memory, took 7 years to be decided and once it was built, a decision was made to demolish it!!
