No.774
Q.: Dear Sir

Today I read your Article in the Cyprus Weekly and I so much appreciate all the information I get from it.

I have a question which i will appreciate very much if you can answer it to me.

Since 2004 I M.S.Demetriou (German, and long time living in Cyprus) I have inherited an Apartment in Limassol. The common Services are done by …… Buidling Services Ltd Limassol.
Since I inherit the apartment I am asking for a general meeting of the Inhabitants of the Buildings Apartments, unfortunately the Person which used to take charge never took care of such meeting nor would he give me the tel NR or adresses so it would be possible to unable a Meeting. When I ask …… to take care, of such they
also refused to contact the other Inhabitants or subbly me with the adresses so I could do so.
Unfortunatly a lot of the Apartments are empty so the whole subject seems and allways happend to stop there.
…….. made a happit of repairing the Elevator or installing a new Ellevator every now and then, so I am getting Bills to pay where nobody knows where they come from. Once i tried with a Lawyer to take care of all this mess unfortunately I ended up to pay Lawyers Costs and double the amount of money to ……..
Can you please help me, or show me the steps I have to go to get out of this mess. meaning to get a general meeting to have the chance as a community to arrange all the neccessary steps to have a fair and square maintanance.

Thank you so much for your attention

With friendly Regards M. S. Demetriou

A.: I suggest you communicate with the developer and find out who has appointed X services. If he is not cooperating either, you can send a letter to all tenants placing them under their door stating your views (I doubt that they will respond but try it). If this fails also, there is little more than you can do, other than refuse to pay the bill. X services might sue you and you can explain your situation during the court proceedings and ask for details/clarifications etc. A messy situation I am afraid and I cannot offer you good advice having tried before yourself the legal way.
Regards,
A.P. Loizou

Q.: A coffee for €5 Mr Loizou? I come from Italy where a coffee does not cost more than €2 and this in a high end.
L. Lozo

A.: You know my sensitivities on the costs of drinks etc. But then, in Italy, coffee seekers spend 1-5 minutes and not 1-2 hours as it is here, especially bearing in mind that in Italy you have stools for quick coffee and not taking over a 5 seats table taken over by 2 and objecting if anybody else joins. This is the reason my friend. Coffee here does not mean necessarily to have a coffee, but as a projection of the Cypriot coffee shop with people spending hours talking see (see the girls passing) and be seen (in trendy places). So, there is a difference I am afraid.

Q.: We are building our home in this lovely country. We have been asked whether we prefer to have a local builder to build the fireplace or to buy a ready made one (the difference is considerable and the imported fireplaces are at least double cost).
Jann San

A.: What can I say? I have bought an €1.000 imported Italian fireplace and my neighbour cost him €350 by a local builder and it is much more effective. If you have a local builder who knows what he is doing (how are you to know) I suggest to use the local option.

Q.: Any views on the Nicosia candidates Mr Loizou? At long last we have managed to register as voters but we want to use our vote for the best man/woman. We feel Nicosia is “mistreated” by the Government and we want to make a point.
Janas Leak

A.: I cannot possible give you my opinion in public. Regrettably the system here as is, is not necessarily for the best person to win, but what the political parties choose. This is a very sorry situation with the political parties getting involved regardless of the capability of their candidates. I am disgusted by the whole situation myself on this subject.

Q.: Now that winter is coming and we like to use our fireplace, we are at two minds what we should do, since, we know that people cut down old beautiful carob and olive trees even when they are not their own for firewood. What do you do in such a case?
David Smithsman

A.: Nothing can be done. However I do share absolutely your views and notwithstanding the fact that I use our fireplace personally everyday I have the same (hypocritical I add) views on the subject. When I was in the U.K. I had this electric “fire” which globed like a true fire but it gave the atmosphere needed at the time. Now however at this “young age” of 63, is not the same. In short I cannot reply to your most sensitive and environmentally based question. Perhaps if we are to import firewood may be a solution (see imported charcoal from Egypt and South Africa).

Q.: Did you read dear Mr Loizou that dogs and other animals are left starving by farmers because the animal feed has gone up in price to the extent that they cannot afford to feed them?
Red Kaine

A.: I have read the report Red, but what is most shocking is that the press did not bother on the animal’s misery, but more on the cost of the animal feed!! Do we have a hope to get better for the animals my friend based on this attitude? I fear not.

Q.: I wish to ask Cyprus Weekly to publish this personal letter in order to show what a lovely person you are. We met at Pissouri village 1 year ago and you gave me a “shoushouko” packet as a present. We never had the opportunity to meet again. Please-please, could you provide us with the manufacturer’s address? We are desperate to make presents to our friends during the Xmas holiday.
Mr & Mrs D. Gadher

A.: So that I can impress you my friends, the Minister of the Interior to whom I send a €5 gift of shoushouko every year is also a fun. I buy the whole produce from our cleaner, which I distribute to my friends. No more stock I am afraid, but please remind me around September 2012 in order to thank you for your comments. In the meantime I suggest you buy from local villages (not at panigiri necessarily).
Regards,
A.P. Loizou
