LARNACA
Located on the southeastern coast, Larnaca is widely known as the
island’s primary airport town, linking Cyprus to the rest of the world
through an uninterrupted series of scheduled and chartered flights.
The town developed on the site of Kition, an ancient city Kingdom founded
by the Mycenaean settlers in the 13th century BC. Serving as the commercial
centre of the island during the Ottoman and British rule, it attracted
shipping and trading activity which contributed to its significant wealth at
the time.
Today it is instantly associated with its two salt lakes and the flocks
of migratory pink flamingos they welcome, but above all with ‘Finikoudes’,
the palm-lined coastal promenade with a string of restaurants and cafés.
Swarms of resident and foreign visitors enjoy the promenade’s unique
seafront ambience, by day and by night.
A fully-fledged tourist zone stretches along the coast just outside the
city, while prime and prestigious housing developments around the city are
favoured by owners who value Larnaca’s international spirit and
accessibility. |
